Growing up in an affluent suburb, that's a stat I never had top of mind. I was among the fortunate. I had a beautiful house. I went to a good school. I had every opportunity in front of me and never longed for anything. Yet it was a pile of plastic toys that would change my life forever. Read More

Kohl’s Cares Go Green Event Wants Your Gently Used Plastic Toys
Donate your plastic toys on April 20th from 11am – 2pm and enjoy some family fun with Kohl’s Cares and Second Chance Toys at Smith Memorial Playground and Playhouse. 3500 Reservoir Drive, Philadelphia, PA 19121
Kohl’s Cares will be celebrating Earth Week by collecting, cleaning and donating gently used plastic toys to organizations serving disadvantaged children. Within hours, thousands of toys will be transported by 1-800-GOT-JUNK? to local Head Starts in Philadelphia metro communities. There will be entertainment and activities for all, a visit from first-round NFL prospect and Philadelphia native Sharrif Floyd, in addition to the opportunity to enjoy Smith’s Playground and Playhouse! A toy donation on April 20th will get you a free face painting OR balloon art at Smith!
To make it easy, Smith is also accepting your gently used plastic toys between April 1st and April 20th.
Plastic toys should:
– be clean
– no small or missing parts
– batteries functional
This is a great opportunity to start your spring cleaning early, make some deserving children happy, and at the same time keep these non biodegradable plastics out of our landfills. Help your community and the environment this Earth Week
The Second Chance Toys website has won another award! The MarCom International Competition for Marketing & Communication Professionals has chosen the site as one of their 2012 Gold Award Recipients. Great work, 8fold.
Second Chance Toys is excited to announce our Earth Week 2013 partnership with 4GOOD, a Los Angeles based non-profit organization inspiring families to actively participate in volunteer activities.
Each spring, 4GOOD holds a sponsored Family Day Event where their mission is to "Spark the Spirit of Giving Back". Local families attend the event for a free afternoon full of fantastic hands-on family friendly volunteer activities and opportunities. Last year, 4GOOD Family Day attracted more than 500 parents, grandparents and children. 4GOOD will be holding a gently used plastic toy drive at their 2013 event and will be donating their collected toys to SCT. We are thrilled to be working together and look forward to a very successful collection.

With the support of Kohl’s and 1-800-GOT-JUNK?, Second Chance Toys was able to save 31,000 feet of plastic toys from our landfills. That's enough to equal the height of 21 Empire State Buildings!
This holiday season Second Chance Toys conducted 85 collections in 14 states for a total of 18,026 toys collected! That’s nearly double the amount we usually collect and brings our total to over 131,000 toys donated to date.
As more and more people hear about Second Chance Toys we continue to expand across the country. We look forward to reaching even more children with our 2013 collections.
Thank you for all of your efforts!
The Pine Crest School Environmental Action Club in Golden Beach, Florida collected over 270 toys for their SCT holiday collection. The club donated the toys to disadvantaged children and teens served by Kids in Distress of Broward County. Thank you so much for volunteering, your efforts have made a big difference in the lives of your recipients!
Seane Corn (center) and friends came together to support ongoing efforts to help communities affected by Hurricane Sandy. Off the Mat, Into New Jersey was a benefit that took place at the Atlantic City Convention Center on December 22. Over 850 toys were donated by attendees and yoga studios throughout New Jersey and nearby states to benefit families hard hit by Sandy.
Pictured here with Seane Corn, founder of Off the Mat, Into the World are Elisabeth Halfpapp (left), co-founder and executive vp of exhale spa, a sponsor of the relief effort and Bronna Lipton (right), executive director of Second Chance Toys.
The positive energy created from this event made for a holiday milestone.
Cub Scouts from Glen Rock Pack 1 and Ridgewood Pack 8 volunteered their time to clean and sort toys at the Fair Lawn Recycling Center Holiday Collection. The volunteers and their parents came to the center on a Saturday morning ready to work knowing that their efforts would make a world of difference to the recipient children in Bergen and Passaic counties.
Ron Lottermann, Recycling & Clean Communities Coordinator, volunteered to hold the SCT toy collection at the center for the holidays. "I am always looking for new programs that will help Fair Lawn reduce waste amounts. A program like this where we can reduce toys from ending up in landfills by benefiting others is the perfect solution to both of our needs", said Lottermann.
New York Giants Fullback Henry Hyonski helped deliver toys with SCT to children at PS142 in New York City. A big THANK YOU to the Educational Alliance, our holiday collection partners at Kidville, and 1-800-GOT-JUNK? for making the event a success!
Tis’ the season to be jolly! Choka Lyme’s 3rd Annual Second Chance Toys collection was a great success. The SCO Family Services located in Sea Cliff, New York welcomed the donation of toys with open arms as the volunteers brought their collection of gently used plastic toys to their need. Choka Lyme’s mission statement reads, “Simple people doing simple things in a big way”, and that certainly proved to be true this holiday season.
We are deeply saddened by the terrible losses suffered in Newtown, Connecticut. Our hearts go out to the families, school staff and the community of Sandy Hook Elementary School.
You are all in our thoughts and prayers.
Sincerely,
The Second Chance Toys Team
It’s the season of giving and Evergreen students in Scotch Plains got into the spirit by conducting a gently used plastic toy drive with Second Chance Toys. In one hour, 500 toys were donated and packed on a truck volunteered by 1-800-GOT-JUNK? and transported to Newark and Elizabeth. By 11:00am, children there were playing with the toys. In the words of one parent, “ I did not have any money to buy my children toys this year. This is very nice.”
Bring your gently used plastic toys to the Off the Mat Hurricane Sandy Benefit at the Atlantic City Convention Center on December 22.
Second Chance Toys has had the privilege of working alongside some of the best volunteers around the country. Every so often, someone stands out among the rest and offers their time in an outstanding way.
Billie Wolf from the Harmony Unitarian Universalist Church in Mason, Ohio, has volunteered her time to drive 2 hours for a holiday toy delivery. She wanted to be sure that the toys her church has collected will get to the children in need at a Head Start in Blacklick. No distance was too far when it came to knowing that those children would have the joy of toys for the holidays.
Inspiring efforts like this make our journey as an organization truly amazing. We thank you for your effort and we are so grateful to be working with such dedicated individuals.
Kidville has generously opened their doors to a total of 7 New York City and New Jersey locations to collect toys with SCT for the holidays. Click here to find the location nearest you and donate your gently used plastic toys to make a difference this holiday season.
We look forward to bringing smiles to some very deserving children with the help of Kidville and all of our wonderful volunteers.

Make a difference by helping us reach as many families as possible.
Times are tough and families are struggling to provide the most basic of needs for their children. Let's do what we can to allow them the comfort of knowing there will be toys to enjoy this holiday season. We need volunteers to collect gently used plastic toys for children who might otherwise go without them.
Organizations serving disadvantaged children all over the country are requesting toy donations from Second Chance Toys.
Here's how you can help: Take a look at the locations below. Do you know anyone in these areas who can help us? Spread the word on Facebook, Twitter, and through any means possible that Second Chance Toys is need of toy collectors (local businesses, mom's groups, schools, churches, scout troops, passionate individuals, etc.).
This list will only continue to grow as the holidays approach. Please help us get collections going in these areas!
Together we can make a difference in the lives of some very deserving little ones.
